Thank you for being here!

Audit Advocacy Toolkit

Who are we?

The Election Truth Alliance (ETA) is a non-profit, non-partisan organization dedicated to supporting unbiased election analysis and informed discussions surrounding results. The ETA prioritizes the constitutional voting rights of citizens and seeks to equip them with vital information about the security, integrity, and legitimacy of their votes.

We are data-driven and deeply committed to the principle that every eligible voter has the right to cast their vote and have their vote be counted accurately.

What's happening?

The ETA has undertaken an independent analysis of publicly-available results from the 2024 U.S. Presidential  Election. Through this analysis, which has included numerous areas across the United States, our organization has identified several anomalies in publicly-available election result data.

Our analysis of post-election data indicates patterns that are consistent with vote manipulation in multiple states.

What does this mean?

It means that hundreds of thousands of Americans may have been disenfranchised, meaning their right to vote and have their vote be counted accurately may have been compromised.

It also means that, if these election results were manipulated, it is very likely that the next election will be manipulated too. If so, there would be no chance for anyone, other than those who manipulated the results, to ever win another election. In that case, free and fair elections would be a thing of the past.

What can we do about it?

The bad news is that it's too late to do a "recount" of the results.

The good news is that it’s NOT too late to do widespread hand audits of the results.

Who has the power to make an audit happen?

State and local governments – not the federal government – are the ones with authority to determine if an audit is needed and direct an audit to be undertaken. Paper voting records are retained for months or years after elections for exactly this purpose.

The exact laws and rules around who can make an audit happen vary from state to state. Most of the time, to get hand audits done, we have to either:

  1. Convince state and/or local governments to voluntarily audit paper voting records from the 2024 election; or,
  2. Hire lawyers and go through courts in each state.

The ETA is currently in the process of trying both approaches. This is a huge undertaking.  If you would like to help us fund this endeavor, please visit this page: https://electiontruthalliance.org/donate

How is an audit different from a recount, or an investigation?

This can be confusing, as these terms are sometimes used interchangeably.

  • Recounts: A recount is a re-tabulation of paper ballots or digital ballot images. Recounts generally occur in a specific contest, often as a result of a very close margin. Depending on the state or county, they can be initiated automatically or requested by candidates, voters, election officials, or interested parties. There are usually limited periods of time post-election during which requests for recounts will be considered.
  • Audits: An audit is a review conducted after polls close and may be routine or non-routine. They may be focused on whether the results were accurate, and/or whether proper processes were followed. Audits can be routine, meaning a small percentage of ballots is always checked after each election, or they can be non-routine, usually in response to concerns being raised.
  • Investigations: A formal and systematic examination into the circumstances surrounding an election process, often as a response to significant non-compliance concerns. Official investigations are generally led by a government body, often a state or county in the U.S. context.

The ETA is specifically calling for a hand audit of paper voting records. This would be a non-routine review of paper voting records for the purpose of determining whether votes were counted correctly.

What can YOU do?

  • You can use our AUDIT ADVOCACY TOOLKIT to:
  • Email or write a letter to state and local officials to advocate for hand audits.
    • We have developed templates to make this easier, including:
      • Templates for contacting your own state and local officials; and,
      • Templates for contacting state and local officials in other states.

  • Call or text state and local officials to push for widespread hand audits.
    • We have developed scripts to make this easier.

You can also use these templates/scripts to contact your federal Representatives and Senators if you want them to use their voice to join you in calling on state and local officials to audit paper voting records.

We have also put together a draft list of state-level contacts. Please note that:

  • This list is draft and may contain errors; please double-check your state to make sure we got the contact right, and please let us know if we made a mistake!
  • In some states, county-level election officials (such as a Chair of the Board of Elections) can also play an important role in elections. We recommend you research elections in your state to see who to contact!
